Matthew Underwood

Bio


Mr. Matthew Underwood is an aerospace research engineer in the Crew Systems and Aviation Operations Branch at NASA Langley Research Center. Matt graduated from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Matt’s prior areas of research at Langley involve Trajectory-Based Operations, Flight-Deck Interval Management, integration of supersonic commercial vehicles into the National Airspace System, network-enabled air traffic management, and en route trajectory optimization (Traffic Aware Strategic Aircrew Requests, TASAR).

Matt is a technical lead for Strategic Airborne Trajectory Management, where he is focusing on advanced concepts for trajectory optimization and negotiation. Matt also serves as the Deputy Lead for NASA’s Vision 2045 activity, which is creating a community-supported vision for the future of aviation operations.
