Stewart Nelson

Bio


Stewart Nelson is a Research Aerospace Engineer for the Crew Systems and Aviation Operations Branch at NASA Langley Research Center. He supports the High Density Vertiplex (HDV) and Automated Flight Contingency Management (AFCM) Subprojects under the Advanced Air Mobility Project. Since beginning his career at NASA in 2022, Stewart has led scenario design and development, conducted research flight operations, and assisted in development of the Remote Operations for Autonomous Missions (ROAM) uncrewed aerial system (UAS) operations center. Prior to becoming a researcher at NASA, Stewart was a Mechanical Design Engineer for a UAS design and manufacturing startup in Hampton, Virginia.

Stewart holds a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky, where he conducted atmospheric research with fixed-wing UAS.
