Wake Modeling and Mitigation

Wake vortices are generated by a direct consequence of lift. The turbulence produced by these vortices present a hazard behind in aircraft in the takeoff and landing phases of flight that may affect aircraft in this region. Wake spacing standards have been designed to ensure air traffic safety but are very conservative limiting efficiency and capacity in today’s operations.
